Newest member to Marine Atlantic fleet sets sail

PORT Aux BASQUE, Nfld. — Marine Atlantic’s massive new ferry is gearing up for its maiden voyage tonight.

According to local news, the MV Atlantic Vision — supposedly the largest ferry to sail into Port aux Basques Harbour — should pull away from the North Sydney terminal for the first time just before midnight.

Despite some speculation the larger vessel wouldn’t squeeze into Port aux Basques Harbour, there are no concerns from officials.

The 320-meter-long vessel hikes vehicle capacity by about 50 percent compare to MV Caribou and the MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood . It is able to carry a mix of 531 cars and commercial trucks and 700 passengers.
